Ammonites in the pebbles, corals in the cobbles, and oysters in the high street? Can you really find fossils on the historic streets of York? Join palaeontologist Fossiliam (Dr Liam Herringshaw) on our York Family Fossil Hunt and we’ll show you, yes you can!

We’ll meet outside the Yorkshire Museum in York Museum Gardens, and then visit a variety of places where fossils are hiding – in the gardens, in the cobbled streets, and even in the city’s buildings. You can’t take any of them home, but you will see some lovely – and surprising – fossils, and you’ll never look at the city streets the same way again.

The walk lasts 60-90 minutes, is step-free (although cobbled streets often aren’t suitable for people of restricted mobility), and is suitable for ages 3 and up. All children aged 3 and up need a ticket and all under-18s must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
