The 10th anniversary edition of Yorkshire Fossil Festival will take place on Majuba Beach, Redcar & Cleveland


The YFF brings together the UK’s community of fossil enthusiasts to celebrate Earth science, paleontology and fossil culture. It’s the best place to learn, share knowledge and meet fellow rockhounds In the North of England.

A genuine treasure box, stepping into Whitby Museum is like taking a step back in time. Traditional without being antiquated, the museum’s galleries share wonderful displays that give a view into the heritage of Whitby going back 200, 2000 and 200 million years. The Fossil gallery is world class and contains the very specimens that gave Yorkshire Coast recognition as an international site of scientific significance. This is a must-visit museum for everyone who has a keen interest in fossils, Earth science, and geo-heritage.

Natural Wonders – Whitby

A trip to Whitby is not complete without a visit to Natural Wonders on Grape Lane. Paleontologist Byron Blessed has been a key figure in North Yorkshire’s fossil scene for over two decades. Many paleontological careers have been inspired by the specialist tours run by his guides and countless specimens found along the coast have been prepared for display using the talents of his in-house fossil-prep experts. The shop and online store stocks some of the finest specimens of fossils, crystals & gems from around the world.

The Fossil Shop – Scarborough

The Fossil Shop in Scarborough is the hub of interest for the fossil enthusiast public. More than just a shop, it is the base for fossil hunting tours, dinosaur footprint walks & other nature activities such as rock pooling that are place along the southern half of the North York Moors Coast. A great place for local advice on tidal conditions and fossil finds and of course, you can buy books, tours, fossils and experiences!

Rotunda Museum Scarborough

The Rotunda Museum is the world’s first custom built museum of geology. A fascinating building designed to reflect and display fossils unearthed from the Yorkshire Coast, the museum contains an exceptional interpretive display including the Speeton Plesiosaur, humongous Megasaurus footprints and the Star Carr Collection of Palaeolithic Humans
