SUITABILITY RATING – Ideal for families, beginners, and amateurs. Not suitable for children under 6 years old or for adults with mobility issues – the long walk has hills, uneven rock platforms and wet terrain. 

START LOCATION – Outside “Natural Wonders” Fossil Shop, Grape Lane, Whitby, YO22 4BA

Tour Guide – The Rock Showman or Byron Blessed

This is a 3 hour, 3 mile walking tour starting & ending in the picturesque heart of Whitby. You will be guided through an informative & engaging introduction to the Earth Heritage of a world-class location. Your expert guide teaches techniques of fossil finding, supported by safety advice and best practice for enthusiasts wanting to learn and do more. The outdoor classroom approach mixes practical with theoretical in an exciting family experience.

After ascending the “199 Steps” to the Glorious Ruins of Whitby Abbey, the walking itinerary travels along the Cleveland Way coastal path before descending into stunning Saltwick Bay. Each tour guarantees fossil finds to take home, plus photographs of Stegosaur and Theropod dinosaur footprints.
