Sandsend is an often overlooked fossil location, as the main beach and cliff sites are unproductive during most conditions. With a guided itinerary away from the main beach there’s some very interesting things to be found and seen, including jet and alum mines, and some of the Coast’s most productive locations for Harpoceras ammonites, marine reptiles and Jet. Private tour itineraries include the pyrite fossil localities around Sandsend Ness and the 5hr spectacular itinerary to Kettleness. These private tours are tailored to the specific abilities, timings and objectives of each group and always consider the specific access requirements of this location, with consideration for extreme weather events.
Due to monthly tidal variations, it is not always possible to embark on Sandsend Tours, particularly during winter hours.
PLEASE NOTE: As of winter 2025/6, this location is not available due to compromised access and safety concerns except under special circumstances. After metal stairway was damaged by 2024 storms, it was deemed as structurally unsound. Multiple rescues took place here in 2024. General public access is not recommended.
