Join Byron for a fossil hunt on Britain’s Best Beach!

SUITABILITY RATING – Ideal for families, beginners, younger children and for adults with minor mobility issues. The itinerary has level access onto the beach, with a 30 minute walk to the furthest hunting grounds. Terrain is sloped road, sand, cobbled beach, and bare rock platform.

PARKING – A small, busy P&D car park is in the lower village – Bank Bottom Car Park – TS13 5HT. In Summer and on busy weekends this is regularly full, with the nearest parking at the top of the village. Allow 20 mins to park car and get to the start location. Minimum advised 4 hours

Age range: Over 4

This is a 2-3 hour tour starting from the Cafe near the Beach and with heading South East towards Kettleness, or North towards Port Mulgrave.

Your Palaeontologist guide Byron will lead you on a time-travelling journey from the present day back to almost 200 million years ago. Exploring ancient history in the spectacular outdoor classroom of North York Moors National Park.

From Ice Age Mammals to Jurassic Sea Dragons, Runswick Bay provides a unique insight into our planet’s deep past. Each step along ther beach provides a small window into this, via the stories contained in rocks and pebbles. Byron will teach how to identify finds and split open any rocks to reveal the fossil inside.

Our tours combine specialist scientific knowledge with tips on responsible collecting and how to stay safe. On this itinerary we search for ammonites, belemnites, reptile bones and Whitby Jet.
